So many things get backed up if your hydration levels aren’t on point. (Pun intended.)
Dehydration can cause your cells to not function optimally.
You probably already know that it can cause constipation.
But did you know that it can also affect mental and physical performance?
Without drinking enough water you may suffer from physical and mental fatigue including brain fog.
In fact I’ve read research that suggests that hydration levels can influence mood as well.
And I’m not even talking about major dehydration. A drop of as little as 5% can cause symptoms.
Our brains also don’t recognize the difference between hunger and thirst, so by the time you’re actually thirsty you’re already dehydrated.
Make nutrition simple by making sure that your urine is clear to a very pale yellow.
Increase your fruits and vegetables.
By increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables in your day you are able to make nutrition simple in many different ways.
You’ll get full faster and on fewer calories because they are full of fiber. And you’ll stay full longer because they take longer to digest.
Fruits and vegetables also contain many different vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to help you stay healthy and energetic.
You may even feel lighter when eating more fruits and vegetables because they don’t have the same weight in your stomach. Their weight versus volume ratio is lighter compared with other foods.
Plus, they’ll add to your hydration levels with the fluid that they contain within their cells.
And of course fruits and vegetables help make nutrition simple by filling you up and leaving less room for others foods that are less nutritious, but more calorie dense.
Get enough protein.
There is a lot of debate on the amount of protein that is needed for daily intake, but you’re here to find out how to make nutrition simple so we’ll keep it nice and easy.
Honestly, the amount that’s recommended based on the nutritional guidelines is really low.
The kind of low that may be doing more harm than good. And based on the rates of obesity in the US, it probably is.
It really doesn’t matter if your source of protein is animal based or plant based.

Switch up your carbs.
Oh, carbs. How we have a love/hate relationship with carbs.
Whether you’re high carb or low carb really doesn’t matter. I really don’t recommend no carb, first it’s nearly impossible and no one will like you, trust me.

And remember fruits and vegetables are carbs too.
Switching from white to whole wheat bread is a simple fix once you find a brand that tastes good to you.
You can also switch out cereals for more whole grains like steel cut oats or buckwheat.

Take a multivitamin.
It’s questionable as to whether you can consume enough vitamins and minerals through diet alone.
This is a debate for another day though.

A multivitamin is just insurance that covers any gaps that you might have in your overall nutrition.
Follow the 80/20 rule.
Don’t make yourself crazy trying to change everything at once.
Make your nutrition simple by slowly working at changing the way that you eat.
If you change everything at once you’ll probably be miserable and we don’t want that.
We want consistent, small steps to help you on your journey.
And don’t forget that it’s okay to have treats that aren’t always nutritious.
As long as you eat well 80% of the time, the other 20% will work itself out.
